Research Health Science Specialist
Kathleen Schutte is a research health science specialist at the Center for Health Care Evaluation, a research group of the Veterans Affairs (VA) Palo Alto Health Care System and Stanford University School of Medicine in Menlo Park, California, U.S.A. She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Iowa and completed post-doctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco. Her research interests are in late-life problem drinking, the role of life context in explaining the course and outcomes of co-occurring substance use disorder and depression, and clinical practice guideline adherence in the treatment of patients with depression and substance use disorder. Planned future work includes evaluation of the role of life context, depression, and drinking in predicting late-life suicidal behavior and a VA project evaluating the predictors and outcomes of treating bipolar depression with antidepressant monotherapy.
