Alcohol and belonging in LBGT+, Polish, and South Asian communities

We will discuss our research on belonging around drinking within South Asian (Dewsbury), Polish (Hull and Scunthorpe), and LGBTQ+ (Doncaster and Leeds) communities in Yorkshire. The research aims to identify how belonging to a community impacts on an individual’s relationship with alcohol, and how this supports or prevents their interaction with services. The talk will look at the findings from the different communities and discuss overarching themes in relation to belonging and being part of a community. The talk will present a tentative model of belonging in relation to alcohol that is being developed as part of the research.
