Kyla Thomas

Associate Professor in Public Health Medicine

Biography

Dr Kyla Thomas is an Associate Professor in Public Health Medicine at the University of Bristol and Honorary Consultant in Public Health at South Gloucestershire Council. She has an undergraduate medical degree (with Distinction) from the University of the West Indies and postgraduate qualifications (MSc (Distinction), MSc Research and PhD with Commendation) from the Universities of Oxford and Bristol respectively. She completed Public Health specialist training in the UK in 2016.
Dr Thomas’ main research interests are in addiction, particularly the safety and effectiveness of smoking cessation medicines and e-cigarettes and prescription opioid analgesic dependence. Future work will include development of a primary care-based intervention to prevent and reduce opioid painkiller dependence in patients with chronic non-cancer pain. Her current work is funded by an NIHR Advanced Fellowship.
Dr Thomas is also a senior editor with the Addiction journal.
