Dr Priyadarshini Sabesan

I studied Medicine (MBBS) at Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu India. After one year of internship in India (PGY-1 equivalent) I moved to United Kingdom in 2007, and successfully completed the qualifying exams to pursue further postgraduate training. I completed my Basic Specialist Training in Psychiatry and trained mostly in East Midlands. Throughout my clinical training, I have been active in research, teaching and leadership roles. My research interest lies in synthesizing age-specific evidence base to develop treatment recommendations in the elderly. I have completed a peer review on antipsychotic use in elderly its safety and effectiveness, and also completed a review on safety and efficacy of TMS (Transcranial magnetic stimulation) in the elderly along with colleagues in the Nottingham Neuromodulation Unit. I also contributed to evaluating factors associated with prolonged hospitalization in psychosis. This project has helped inform the utility of cost-effectiveness measures that are being undertaken in our hospital Trust. I have led Regional Psychiatric Trainees committee for a period of 1 year and along with other colleagues, influenced many aspects of the on-call system for residents. I am currently working as an st4-st6 trainee in general adult. This survey was completed whilst I was working as a trainee in Substance Misuse. Now I am in the process of moving to Canada to start work as a Full-time Clinical Academic in the Department of Psychiatry, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (Schulich Medicine & Dentistry) at Western University (Western) from May 2016.
