Francesca Sawer is a recently qualified Clinical Psychologist working at the Maudsley Hospital in London. This research was completed during her doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Surrey and followed a long-standing interest within the area of addiction. Her passion for this research stemmed for both her earlier work within a complex trauma service working with ex-military personnel, asylum seekers and victims of sexual abuse and seeing how drug and alcohol was often the only perceived coping strategy, but also from personally witnessing the devastating impact of addiction. Francesca also has interests in neurodevelopmental psychology and brain injury and hopes to continue working clinically within the NHS, whilst also continuing with research to help inform clinical practice and preventative health initiatives.
