Dr Daniel Ranson

Research Area

Dan is a molecular neuropharmacologist with a background in underpinning the molecular neural pathways of alcohol addiction in the brain. In 2017, he was awarded the Society for the Study of Addiction PhD studentship and was presented his doctorate in July 2021; his thesis explored the GABAergic neurotransmitter system and the role it played in modulating different addiction like behaviours in fruit flies. As a result, Dan has gone on to publish journal articles, be interviewed on podcasts and has also presented his work at national and international conferences.

Biography

Dan is also a passionate mental health advocate using both lived experiences and literature to fuel his works. Dan is co-responsible for the academic mental wellness initiative Voices of Academia (VOA); VOA can be found on Twitter with its 15.3k followers (May 2022) where we share a bi-weekly blog and podcast episode, that shares the lived experiences of people from all areas of academia on a variety of different stories.
