Biography

MRC Doctoral Training Programme PhD student

Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, University College London

Having started my career working with street drinkers in a ‘wet’ day centre, alcohol use and its impact have always been central to my clinical and research interests.  I have spent the past 10 years working in clinical research within the NHS, both as a research nurse and research and development manager, where I was predominantly involved with the development of interventions for people experiencing difficulties with mental health and/or substance misuse.  Following the completion of a masters in health psychology, my interest in alcohol research broadened to incorporate population-level determinants and consequences of consumption, as well as population-level interventions.

My doctoral research will focus on the use of longitudinal data to explore the relationship between alcohol consumption, mental health and social support across the life course. Data from three generational cohorts will be used to examine any generational differences in this relationship.
