Biography

Tom received a NIHR Doctoral Fellowship and completed his PhD in Addiction Science at King’s College London on the impact of alcohol disorders on hospital admissions and emergency department attendances. He was appointed in 2018 as Professor of Nursing in Addiction, Institute for Clinical Applied Health Research, University of Hull and provides strategic support to the alcohol care team within Hull Royal Infirmary. As principal investigator on several projects, he focusses on addressing the impact of alcohol use on secondary care and with Prof Julia Sinclair, he jointly leads a NIHR (HSDR) funded research consortium conducting a national evaluation of alcohol care teams: ProACTIVE. Tom is a member of the UK clinical guideline group on alcohol and member of the NICE Quality Standards Advisory Committee on alcohol use disorders.
