Mrs Helen Howlett
I work for Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust as a Senior Research Nurse and Midwife. I specialise in women’s health related research and lead a dedicated team of nurses and midwives.
My special interest in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) began in 2013 when I met a mother speaking about the difficulties of bringing up her disabled daughter. The predicament of these children and their parents has motivated my research. I work closely with the FASD Network to raise awareness of FASD, facilitate diagnosis and provide training to parents and professionals. I am currently completing my PhD entitled ‘Exploring the feasibility and clinical effectiveness of antenatal alcohol screening to clinicians, pregnant women and their partners’.
I intend to commence a fellowship to continue this research in the near future, with a view to improving clinical practice and patient care.
