“To achieve this qualification you will currently be working as a lead adult care worker, support worker or key worker in a range of Adult Care settings in England and have regular contact with substance misusers, you will be in a role such as probation, social services, health services, teachers, police and will want to increase your level of competence around working with substance misusers.

They are also relevant to those working within specialist substance misuse services either with adults or children and young people. These services may be statutory or voluntary and will usually have Service Level Agreements with local Drug Action Teams (DATs), Community Safety Partnerships (CSPs) or Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs).

This qualification allows you to learn, develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge required for employment and/or career progression in Adult Care within a role which has some autonomy, delegated responsibility and where there may be a need for supervision of others.

The content of the mandatory units covers person centred approaches, communication, personal development, equality and inclusion, handling information, duty of care, responsibilities of the role, safeguarding, and, health, safety and wellbeing.

A range of optional units to choose from covers a variety of tasks and skills including:

Assessments, care planning and support for substance misusers Detoxification programmes and medication Working with children who are substance misusers Developing and implementing substance abuse policy.”
