Pete Burkinshaw (PHE): Take-home naloxone policy in England

Pete joined the National Treatment Agency (NTA) in 2008 as the standards & inspections national programme lead, leading the joint NTA & Healthcare Commission drug treatment reviews. He was appointed as the NTA skills and development manager in December 2009. Pete started working in the substance misuse field as a practitioner in 1992 and has worked in a variety of treatment settings. He managed community based drug treatment services from 1997 until 2004, running a range of contracts including: brief intervention services; abstinence based group work programmes; police custody referral services; a residential rehabilitation service; a young people’s service; and harm reduction services. From 2004 to 2007, he worked as a freelance consultant delivering a range of substance misuse service and treatment system reviews and training programmes.
