Loneliness and food addiction: How important is emotion dysregulation and impulsivity?

First published: 10 May 2019 | Last updated: 20 May 2019

Exploring factors that are associated with food addiction is vital. This pilot study examined the relationship between food addiction and loneliness, as well as the mediating effect impulsivity and emotion dysregulation might have on this relationship. 143 participants completed measures on food addiction, loneliness, impulsivity and emotion dysregulation. Pearson correlation demonstrated a moderate positive correlation between food addiction and loneliness. Controlling for the effect of impulsivity and emotion dysregulation, the relationship between loneliness and food addiction did no longer exist. The findings of this research add successfully to the existing corpus of research on FA and provide fruitful directions for future research.
